Custom Neon Signs for Bedrooms

Custom neon signs for bedrooms are LED or glass neon signage designed for bedroom walls, headboard areas, feature walls, and personal spaces. Echo Neon makes both formats and has been building personalized bedroom signs since 2015. The most common bedroom builds are custom name signs, personalized quote signs, and above-the-bed wall art that serves as the room’s focal point.
With a dimmer, the sign doubles as a night light at low brightness, replacing a separate bedside lamp. LED neon flex is the recommended format for most bedroom placements because it runs cool, weighs less than glass, and dims for sleep.
This page covers where bedroom signs go, when to use LED vs glass, how brightness and dimmer control affect sleep, how to size and mount a sign above the bed, and which bedroom types we build for. To browse other use cases, see all our shop by use case options.

How to Order Your Bedroom Sign

Ordering a custom bedroom sign comes down to three steps.

1. Design

First, design the sign. Use the custom sign builder to type your text, choose your font, pick your color, and set the size. The builder shows a live preview as you go. Name signs and quote signs are the most common bedroom builds. For logos, images, or more complex designs, upload your file or contact our design team. If you need a dimmer for night light function or brightness control, add one at the order stage.

2. Production

Second, we produce the sign. Production typically takes one to three weeks, depending on complexity, format, and current order volume. LED builds are usually faster than glass.

3. Delivery

Third, the sign ships. Standard shipping is free on all orders.

Where Bedroom Neon Signs Go

Bedroom neon signs work in five common placements. Each one has different sizing, brightness, and mounting considerations.

Above the bed on the headboard wall is the dominant placement. The sign mounts on the wall directly above the headboard or the bed frame and becomes the room’s visual focal point. This is the placement that most people picture when they think of a bedroom neon sign. It is also the placement that drives the brightness and mounting considerations later in this page, because the sign hangs directly above where people sleep.

A feature wall or accent wall opposite the bed gives the sign a prominent position without placing it above the sleeper. The sign faces the bed and is visible when lying down. This placement works well for larger signs because the wall is not constrained by the headboard width. It is also the placement where glass neon works best in a bedroom, because the sign is not directly above a sleeping person.

The vanity and mirror area uses a smaller sign to add warmth near the makeup vanity, dressing mirror, or getting-ready station. Mount beside or above the mirror at a height that does not create glare in the reflection.

A reading nook or seating area in a larger bedroom uses a small sign to mark the space. A custom quote sign above a reading chair or window seat works as both decor and soft lighting.

A content creator and streaming backdrop uses the sign as the visual anchor behind the camera. If the bedroom doubles as a studio for streaming, video calls, or social media content, the sign sits on the wall that the camera faces. Size the sign to fill the background of the video frame, not to fill the entire wall.

LED vs Glass Neon for Bedrooms. Honest Guidance

LED is the clear recommendation for most bedroom placements. The reasons go beyond cost.

The dominant bedroom placement is above the bed, directly above where people sleep. LED neon flex runs at low voltage (12V or 24V), stays cool to the touch, and contains no glass tubing. It is lightweight, which makes it easier to mount securely on drywall. If the mounting hardware fails, a falling LED sign is a nuisance. A falling glass neon sign above a sleeping person is a different situation. LED also dims, which matters in a room built for sleep.

For kids rooms and nurseries, LED is the only recommendation. No glass above a child’s bed. No glass above a crib. Ever. LED neon flex at its lowest brightness setting provides a warm glow that helps children feel comfortable without flooding the room with light.

Glass neon works for bedroom feature walls that are NOT the headboard wall. A glass sign on the wall opposite the bed, beside the vanity, or above a reading nook is safe and adds the warmth of hand-bent tubing. The sign is not above a sleeping person and the placement does not carry the same safety weight. Glass also works for master bedrooms with high ceilings and large walls, where the sign sits well above head height even from the bed.

The honest recommendation: LED for above-bed, LED for kids rooms, and either format for feature walls away from the bed. To learn more about hand-bent neon, see our glass neon process.

Brightness, Dimmer, and the Night Light Function

The sign hangs in a room built for sleep. Brightness is not a decoration decision. It is a sleep decision.

At full brightness, the sign is a visual focal point during waking hours. It fills the headboard wall with a warm glow that makes the room feel finished. At low brightness via a dimmer, the sign functions as a night light that replaces a separate bedside lamp. The dimmer controls the transition from bed without getting up. For a bedroom sign, a dimmer is not optional. It is the tool that makes the sign work around the clock instead of just during waking hours.

Color choice affects nighttime brightness perception. Warm white glows softer at low dimmer settings than bright blue, pink, or red. If the sign’s primary job is relaxation and sleep, warm white is the most forgiving color. If the sign’s primary job is a visual statement during the day, a bolder color works, but it will feel brighter at night even at low dimmer settings. Both choices are valid. The question is whether the sign serves the room more during waking hours or sleeping hours.

Couples sharing a bed may have different brightness preferences. A dimmer lets them find a setting that works for both. Some couples run the sign at a low glow all night. Others turn it off at bedtime and use it as ambient light during the evening. The dimmer makes both approaches possible.

For kids rooms and nurseries, the sign at its lowest brightness setting provides a warm glow that helps children feel comfortable at night. Parents can adjust the brightness based on the child’s comfort without unplugging or disconnecting the sign.

Sizing and Mounting for Bedrooms

Sign size depends on the bed, the wall, and the placement.

Above-the-bed signs typically run 24 to 48 inches wide. The sign should be narrower than the headboard or bed frame so it does not overpower the wall. A sign that is wider than the headboard looks out of proportion. Larger signs (36 to 48 inches) work above king and queen beds with wide headboard walls. Smaller signs (24 to 36 inches) work for twin beds, kids rooms, and smaller bedrooms. The sign should sit centered above the headboard, typically 6 to 12 inches above the top of the headboard or pillow line.

Feature wall signs can run larger because the wall is the background, not the headboard. 36 to 60 inches works for a large accent wall opposite the bed.

Vanity and reading nook signs run smaller. 12 to 24 inches.

Content creator backdrop signs should be sized to fill the background of the video frame at camera distance, not to fill the wall. 24 to 36 inches is typical for a streaming or video call backdrop.

Dorm room signs run at 18 to 24 inches. Budget-friendly size for smaller walls.

Mounting on drywall: LED signs ship with pre-drilled holes in the acrylic backboard. Use drywall anchors or screw mounts for secure above-bed installation. Do not rely on picture-hanging nails alone for a sign above the bed. The sign must be anchored to the wall so it does not fall. For dorm rooms and rental apartments where drilling is not allowed, adhesive mounting strips (command strip style) work for lightweight LED signs. Test the adhesive on the wall surface before mounting it above the bed.

Bedroom Types and Who We Build Signs For

Different bedrooms call for different signs. The room, the person, and the purpose all shift the answer.

Master bedrooms

Adult decor for the primary bedroom. Warm white and soft colors are the most popular for master bedrooms because the room is built for rest. Couple name signs, romantic quotes, and simple text signs are the common builds. LED for above-bed placement. Glass is an option for a feature wall away from the bed if the room has the space and ceiling height for it.

Teen and young adult bedrooms

Self-expression and personalization drive this market. Bold colors, first names in script fonts, custom quotes, and social media handles are common builds. LED recommended for above-bed placement. This is a major gift market: parents, grandparents, and relatives buying personalized signs for birthdays, holidays, and milestones.

Kids rooms

Safety is the first consideration. LED only. No glass in a child’s room. First name signs, animal shapes, stars and moons are popular designs. The sign at its lowest dimmer setting serves as a night light that helps children feel comfortable without flooding the room with light. Mount securely above the bed or on a feature wall.

Nurseries

LED only. No glass above a crib. Ever. Baby name signs in warm white or soft colors are the most common build. The dimmer at its lowest setting provides a warm glow for nighttime feeding and comfort. Mount well above crib height on a secure wall anchor.

Content creator and streaming setups

The bedroom doubles as a studio. Gamertag, channel name, brand logo, or a custom phrase sits on the wall behind the camera. LED for brightness control on camera. Size the sign to fill the background in the video frame at camera distance. The sign is part of the production setup, not just room decor.

College dorm rooms

Portable, removable, and no-drill. Adhesive mounting strips handle lightweight LED signs on dorm walls without drilling. USB powered for easy plug placement. First name signs, custom quotes, and small decorative signs work at 18 to 24 inches. Budget-friendly sizing for smaller walls and shorter stays.

Guest bedrooms and Airbnb staging

A neon sign in a guest bedroom adds a focal point that photographs well for listing sites. Property name signs, welcome signs, and bedroom accent signs make the room stand out in listing photos.

Frequently Asked Questions

Most LED bedroom signs land between $150 and $600 and can go up to over $1,000 depending on size, font complexity, and color. Larger above-bed signs run toward the top of the range. Smaller name signs run toward the bottom. The custom builder shows a live price as you change options.

LED neon flex is safe for above-bed placement. Low voltage (12V or 24V), cool to the touch, no glass tubing, lightweight. Use proper drywall anchors for secure mounting. Glass neon is better suited for feature walls away from directly above the bed.

Yes. An LED sign with a dimmer can function as a night light at low brightness. At its lowest setting, the sign provides a warm glow without flooding the room with light. Add a dimmer at the order stage if you plan to use the sign this way.

LED neon flex is safe for kids rooms and nurseries. Low voltage, cool to the touch, no glass. We recommend LED only for children’s rooms. No glass neon above a child’s bed or a crib. The sign with a dimmer at its lowest setting serves as a warm night light.

Depends on the bed size and wall space. Above-the-bed signs: 24 to 48 inches wide, narrower than the headboard. King and queen beds: 36 to 48 inches. Twin beds and kids rooms: 20 to 30 inches. Dorm rooms: 18 to 24 inches. Feature walls: 36 to 60 inches.

All LED neon signs come with pre-drilled holes in the acrylic backboard and include a free screw mounting kit for easy installation. For smaller signs, 3M Command Strips work well as an alternative mounting option. For installations above beds, sofas, or other high-traffic areas, we recommend using drywall anchors or screw mounts for added security.

Warm white is the most popular bedroom color because it glows softest at night. Bright colors (pink, blue, red) make a stronger daytime statement but feel brighter at night even at low dimmer settings. Choose based on whether the sign’s primary job is relaxation (warm white) or visual statement (color).

Yes. The custom builder lets you type your text, choose from multiple fonts, pick your color, and set the size with a live preview before you order. Name signs are the most popular bedroom build. Both LED and glass are available.

Echo Neon’s custom builder gives you full control over font, color, size, and backboard style. Generic marketplace signs offer limited customization, inconsistent quality, and generic font options. A custom sign from Echo Neon is built to your exact specifications with free shipping.
