Where Home Gym Signs Go

Home gym neon signs work in four common placements. Each one serves a different job depending on whether the sign is for the person training, the camera, or both.

The main wall gets the gym name sign. This is the identity anchor. “Welcome to [Name]’s Gym.” “[Family Name] Fitness.” “It’s not a garage, it’s [Name]’s gym.” “Pumping Iron since [Year].” The gym name sign is the piece that makes the space feel like a real gym instead of a room with equipment in it. Mount on the largest open wall, above the doorway, or on the wall you face during most of your training. The gym name sign is the most popular home gym build because it personalizes the entire space with one piece.

Above the mirror wall is the most common placement for a motivational or accent sign. Most home gyms have a mirror wall for checking form during lifts. The sign sits above the top edge of the mirror panels. From the lifter’s position, the sign is visible directly and also visible in the mirror’s reflection, creating a layered visual effect. A motivational phrase above the mirrors works because the lifter sees it every time they look at the mirror to check form. Size the sign so it spans a portion of the mirror wall without overpowering it.

Above the squat rack or lifting platform puts the sign directly in the lifter’s sightline during heavy sets. A motivational sign in this spot works because it is visible at the exact moment the lifter is pushing through a hard rep. This placement is personal. The sign is there for the person under the bar.

The filming wall is for online trainers and fitness content creators who use the home gym as a studio. The sign sits on the wall behind the camera, visible during filmed workouts, virtual coaching sessions, and social media content. If the sign is a coaching backdrop, size it to fill the background of the video frame at your camera distance, not to fill the wall. A dimmer helps adjust brightness for camera exposure.

Sizing and Placement for Home Gyms

Sign size depends on the wall, the placement, and the activity zone.

Gym name signs on the main wall work at 24 to 48 inches. The sign should be proportional to the wall. A large garage wall can handle a 48 inch sign. A smaller basement or spare room wall works better at 24 to 36 inches.

Above the mirror wall signs work at 24 to 48 inches. The sign sits above the top edge of the mirror panels. Size so the sign spans a portion of the mirror wall width without overwhelming it.

Above the squat rack or lifting platform signs work at 20 to 36 inches. In the lifter’s sightline during sets. Mount securely to the wall, not to the rack itself.

Filming backdrop signs work at 24 to 36 inches. Size to the camera frame at your typical filming distance, not to the wall. The same sizing logic from the home office video call backdrop applies here.

Beside equipment zones (dumbbell rack wall, cardio corner, stretching area) work at 18 to 30 inches. Smaller accent signs that mark different areas of the gym.

Mounting: Echo Neon signs ship with pre-drilled holes in the acrylic backboard. For drywall, use wall anchors. For unfinished garage walls (exposed studs, plywood, concrete block), use appropriate hardware for the surface. For brick, use masonry anchors. Adhesive strips work for lightweight LED signs on smooth surfaces where drilling is not an option. Mount the sign on the wall, not on the equipment.
